How often should you wash your dog? The guide to a successful bath
Bathing is an integral part of grooming your dog, but washing too frequently can dry out their skin and damage their coat. At PawGlow, we help you find the right balance to keep your companion clean, healthy, and happy.
How often should you bathe your dog? As a general rule, bathing every 4 to 8 weeks is suitable for most dogs. Short-haired breeds with normal skin can be washed less often, while dogs that spend a lot of time outdoors or have oily skin may require more frequent baths. However, avoid bathing your dog more than once a week unless advised otherwise by your veterinarian.
Always use an appropriate shampoo: dogs' skin has a different pH from humans'. Never use human shampoo, which could cause irritation. Opt for a gentle shampoo specially formulated for dogs.
Prepare the bath gently: brush your dog before bathing to remove tangles and dead hair. Use lukewarm water, neither too hot nor too cold, and gradually wet the body before the head.
Rinse thoroughly: shampoo residue can cause itching. Take your time to rinse well until the water is perfectly clear.
Dry carefully: gently blot with a towel, then, if your dog tolerates it, use a low-heat dryer. A well-dried coat prevents odors and irritations.
